FAQ
St. John’s snake bite kit for emergency use includes bandages, cleaning wipes, suction pump set, tourniquet, blood lancet, scalpel blade and some others.
- Lay or sit down with the bite in a neutral position of comfort.
- Remove rings and watches before swelling starts.
- Cover the bite with a clean, dry dressing.
- Mark the leading edge of tenderness/swelling on the skin and write the time alongside it.
Don’t wrap it in a tourniquet. Don’t open the area up with a knife or sharp object. Don’t try to suck out the venom or put ice on it.
Move out of the snake’s striking range. Stay cool and quiet to assist delay the spread of venom. Remove any jewellery and clothes that is too tight before you begin to swell. If possible, position yourself such that the bite is at or below the level of your heart.
The poison spreads throughout the body by morning, and the sufferer dies of respiratory failure.
